In a college creative writing class, most of our days were spent reading each others’ works and critiquing them. It was scary being vulnerable in front of peers — but it was necessary. I was astonished multiple times when scenes I’d written to be serious and emotional were read as comedy. Clearly, I needed a second set of eyes.
If you’re working through a rough section or need some feedback, Pennwriters hosts a critique night from 7 to 9 p.m. on the second Thursday of each month (that’s this week!) at Books-A-Million, 3000 Whiteford Road, Springettsbury Township.
All writers are welcome to bring up to five pages of their work for a group critique. For details, call 717-757-6371.
